The seventh edition of Frank and Andy Schleck’s Gran Fondo took place Saturday 25 May in Mondorf-les-Bains, Luxembourg, with TEAM CYCLING FORCE CHIMAY of Belgium winning both the men’s and women’s gran fondo races to earn front-row starting bibs for the 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.

In the men’s 153km gran fondo race, including +2100m of elevation, 40 year-old ex-pro Nicholas Baiolet of Belgium defeated 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Champion Stefan Kirchmair of Austria after the pair battled through the final meters. Baiolet finished the grueling route in 3:27:15, with Kirchmair two seconds behind. Belgian Jonas Van Den Bossche was third in 3:28:43.

Belgian Celestine Leenknegt, 24, won the women’s gran fondo in 4:01:52, with Tessa Van Der Velde, also Belgian, next at 4:10:00 and Luxembourger Zita Soons claiming the final podium spot in 4:21:27.

In the 83km medio fondo with +1100m of climbing it was Flavio Astolfi of Luxembourg who finished first in 1:49:55, with Jennifer Powell of Great Britain the fastest women in 1:58:54.

Over 3000 competitors participated in the sold-out event, with those finishing in the top 25% of their UCI age/gender category automatically qualifying to participate in the 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships taking place in Denmark later this year.
