With a record 3200 participants the ninth edition of Gran Fondo Squali took place 12 May from the seaside town of Cattolica along Italy’s Adriatic coast, with TEAM CRAINOX partners Pietro Sarti and Manuel Senni attacking the star studded field like hungry sharks to finish 1-2.

After 128km of racing and 2000m of ascent the pair rolled crossed the finish line together, with 25 year-old Sarni stopping the clock first at 3:14:11, while leaving the field behind torn to pieces. Diego Frignani was next, finishing third 48 seconds later. Then a long line of individual finishers – separated by minutes, not seconds – rolled under the finish banner in defeat, including former UCI Gran Fondo World Champions Federico Pozzetto, Tommaso Elettrico and Ivan Martinelli.

Also with a dominating ride, Vanesa Santeliz (LA FUGA) won the women’s race solo in 3:36:26, followed minutes later by Michela Giuseppina Bergozz in 3:39:51 and Alessia Bortoli at 3:45:06.

Michela Gorini (TEAM FAUSTO COPPI) and Davide Leone (TEAM GO FAST) claimed victory in the 85km women’s and men’s medio fondo in 2:23:11 and 2:08:27 respectively.
