UPDATE 9 August 2024: NADO Italia has banned Testa until 5 May 2028.

After an anti-doping test ordered by the Italian Anti-Doping Organization (NADO Italia) allegedly revealed the presence of the banned substance Erythropoietin (EPO), cyclist Antonio Testa has been preliminarily suspended.

The 40 year-old former professional (2010-2014) ended his career riding for the Slovenian UCI Continental Team Radenska. Recent amateur results list Testa finishing 76th overall and 6th in his age group at Granfondo Internazionale Laigueglia on 25 February 2024, riding for team G.S. Oratino Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica.

EPO is a drug banned at all times by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). It is fast acting and dramatically improves athletic performance by increasing red blood cell production, which then carries significantly more oxygen to the body’s muscles.
