On a beautiful Sunday at a sold-out Indiana University stadium in America’s heartland, thousands of cheering cycling fans watched 33 collegiate teams compete for the 73rd Little 500 title. After 200 laps on a quarter-mile cinder gravel velodrome on single-speed bikes, the Black Key Bulls emerged victorious, with team leader Will Wagner crossing the finish line solo, arms raised in a victory salute with a huge 9 second winning margin.

It was the third win for the Black Key Bulls at the Little 500, a gritty and crash filled 4-person team relay race made world famous by the Academy Award winning movie Breaking Away. Victory was all the more sweeter for the Black Key Bulls after they failed to qualify and make the starting grid in 2023. Last year’s champion, Cutters, finished in second place and notched their 15th podium appearance. Delta Tau Delta fraternity came in third.
After finishing second last year, Kappa Alpha Theta sorority won its ninth title at the Little 500 women’s race on Friday. Team Teter came in second place, while third place went to Delta Gamma sorority, which placed fourth in 2023. Team Melanzana, which won in both 2022 and 2023, fell short of the podium with a fourth place finish.
The Little 500 was first run in 1951 and is modeled after the world famous Indianapolis 500 auto race.
