The sunny, warm American southwestern desert welcomed just over 2700 riders from 41 states and 5 countries for the return of the Tour de Scottsdale gran fondo on 13 April. Last run in 2019, the event took a 5 year pandemic pause before staging a much anticipated and welcomed come-back.

We are thrilled to be bringing back this iconic event for Scottsdale. With its long-standing reputation as a well-known cycling event, McDowell Sonoran Conservancy wants to ensure we deliver an event that everyone in Scottsdale can be proud of,” said organizer Vickie McWatters of the Conservancy.

Starting and finishing in Scottsdale, Arizona just outside Phoenix, the event offered a 62-mile gran fondo route with 3383 feet of climbing, plus a 35-mile medio fondo.

45 year-old category 1 racer Kyle Reedy (Jetset Racing) took the gran fondo win from a group of eight riders arriving together, including 50 year-old former WorldTour pro George Hincapie. Reedy finished in 2:22:13 with an average speed of 26.5mph. Chad Beyer (2:22:13) and Tanner Thornton (2:22:15) were next. Caitlin Kellog (Bicycle Haus) was the fastest woman, earning victory in 2:27:21. Bailey Hinz (2:39:05) and Marilyn Chychota (2:39:29) placed second and third.

Jay Silvestri (1:40:41) for the men and Amanda Neiman (1:56:112) for the women were the medio fondo winners.
