UPDATE 9 March 2025: Mark O’Brein has once again set a new Peaks Challenge Falls Creek record, besting his own 2024 time by almost 3 minutes.

After a two-year break Australia’s 235 kilometer Peaks Challenge Falls Creek event returned on Sunday 10 March in the rugged Alpine landscape of Northeastern Victoria.

Long considered Australia’s hardest one-day event, 2000 riders registered, 1600 started and a very determined 1364 conquered over 4000 meters of climbing, while covering the epic Tour de France stage worthy distance, to the finish within the 14 hour time limit.

36 year-old former Australian pro Mark O’Brien set a smashing new course record of 6:43:13, destroying the previous record set by Ben Dyball in 2019 of 7:02:57). Chris Hargreaves, 30, was next fastest at 7:11:32, followed by 48 year-old Tom ‘Old Man’ Leaper at 7:23:02. South Africa pro Kerry Jonker, 27, was the fastest woman, crossing under the finish banner in 8:19:06 for 59th place overall.
