The 46th edition of Cape Town Cycle Tour took place Sunday morning in magnificent conditions along the South African coast for 30,000 cyclists, with Tiffany Keep and Kent Main and standing tall on the top podium step when the racing was all done and dusted.

The women’s 78km race came down to a thrilling three-up photo finish sprint that took officials over five minutes to decide. High speed cameras showed 23 year-old Tiffany Keep (DAS Hutchinson Brother UK) edging out S’annara Grove with a bike throw at the line to win by less than a centimeter. Vera Looser was the looser, finishing third with all three riders awarded a final time of 2:12:01.

“We didn’t know who got it,” Keep confessed. “It was super, super close. S’annara jumped me with about 100 metres to go and I had to work quite hard to get back to her wheel. So, yes, I’m really, very, happy with that!”

In the men’s 109km race, 28 year-old Kent Main (RKC Collective) attacked with 5 kilometers to go, put his head down and held off an elite chasing bunch to finish solo in 2:31:21. Cannondale Factory Racing teammates Charlie Aldrige (2:31:35) and Alan Hatherly (2:31:36) were next to cross the finish line.

“I’ve got goosebumps,” a wide grinning Main said afterwards. “It’s amazing! It was an amazing race. It was super hard right from the beginning but I think how tough it was actually worked in our favour. It’s amazing to have won it!”
