Over 2700 competitors lined up to race for UCI Gran Fondo World Championship starting bibs at the 14th edition of Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.

On a 94km route around the city of Dubai, elite riders Maksim Orekhov (Moscow based Astero Falcon Cycling Team) and Olivija Baleišytė (Dubai Police) took top honors with strong finishing sprints, each earning AED 10,000 (2500 euros) for winning and a rainbow stripe accented UCI Gran Fondo World Series jersey.

The 20 year-old Russian Orekhov finished the men’s race in 2:00:18, followed by Yacine Hamza (2:00:18) and Franceso Lamon (2:00:19). Lithuanian national road and time trial champion Baleišytė, 25, finished in 2:00:21 for the women, with Akvilė Gedraitytė (2:00:022) and Maddison Black (2:0:22) taking second and third place.

As a qualifying race for the 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, the top 25% of riders in their age/gender category automatically earned a starting spot for the world championships taking place in Aalborg, Denmark next September.
