L’Etape by Tour De France arrives in Ireland for the first time next autumn, with the amateur one-day version of the world’s most famous race scheduled to take place in the iconic hills of Killarney, Co. Kerry on 7 September 2024.

“To bring L’Etape to Ireland is incredibly exciting for us and anyone interested in experiencing the thrills of the Tour De France. Ireland is steeped in cycling history and has some of the best cycling anywhere in the world with Kerry being up there with the best on offer,” Race Director Oliver Kirwan announced.

Led by event ambassador and former Tour de France pro Dan Martin, L’Etape Ireland offers riders two routes: a 100km medio fondo and a demanding 138km gran fondo. Both include three timed Mountain segments taking in iconic climbs across Molls Gap, Ballaghbearna Pass and Caragh Lake to compete for KOM/QOM mountain titles and Polka Dot jerseys. There will also be a Sprint segment where fast-twitch speedsters can battle for a Tour de France Green jersey.

L’Etape Ireland is the 32nd race to be added to the L’Etape by Tour de France worldwide calendar and is the second major amateur event, after the UCI Gran Fondo Ireland world championship qualifying race, taking place in the country this year.
