25 year-old Hayley Preen won her third Herald Cycle Tour in South Africa on Sunday, dominating the women’s race to finish solo on the 106km course with a time of 2:59:46.

On a beautiful sunny day, Preen, who won the race in 2020 and 2023, finished well in front of Juanita McKenzie (3:07:30) and Layla Schwellnus (3:07:33) at Pollock Beach outside the town of Gqeberha.

”I love the race, the hospitality is always good and I love the route, in particular the second half of the course,” Preen said.

Hanro Geldenhuys, who finished third a week ago at Gryphon 99er, won the men’s race in a fast and furious pack sprint to the line, stopping the clock in 2:31:54 to take his first Herald Cycle Tour title. Joshua Louw (2:31:54) and Emile Van Niekirk (2:31:55) earned the final podium positions. 2023 champion Theuns van der Bank (2:32:06) was 20th.

16 year-old South African Track Omnium champion Daniel Le Roux won the 106km open classic category race in 2:55:15, with Lauren Smith winning the women’s in 3:08:05.

Upwards of 1400 cyclists participated in the 38th Herald Cycle Tour.
