La Vuelta plans to bring back its amateur Beijing Chagping gran fondo festival on 25-26 May after attracting over 1700 participants for the inaugural edition last year, including 3x Vuelta a España champion Alberto Contador – who finished the ride in an ambulance.
In addition to a gran fondo on Sunday, the Beijing, China based event will also include spectator friendly short course criterium and team time trial races on Saturday, each 26 kilometers in length around the Future Science City Sports Center.
The 95 kilometer gran fondo route includes historic cobbled roads, panoramic vistas and over 730 meters of climbing – 7.5km at 4.2%, 2.7km at 3.7% and several leg breaking segments over 16% gradient.
All three races the will be timed and scored by the Chinese Cycling Association, with the top 3 male and female participants in the criterium and gran fondo awarded medals, plus the top 3 time trial teams.
