UCI GranFondo Jordan opened the 2024 season of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series on Thursday 1 February with a challenging 19.3 kilometer out-and-back time trial adjacent to the Dead Sea, including 120 meters of vertical gain. Riders finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category automatically qualified to compete in the 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championship Time Trial in Denmark next August.
Quickest to complete the picturesque route was Majid Basim of Jordan, stopping the clock in 26:03 to qualify for the world championships with an average speed of 43.76kph.
On Friday and Saturday, riders competed on demanding gran fondo routes that started below sea level at the Dead Sea and climbed to a peak elevation of 850m. Friday’s 73.8km course traversed in a clockwise direction, while Saturday’s 76.5km race was run in the opposite way, each ascending Mount Panorama road with breathtaking vistas of the Dead Sea. Both races also afforded amateurs the opportunity of qualifying for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships by finishing in the top 25% of their category.
