The USA’s first major gravel race of the year rolled out of Ukia in Northern California on Saturday 27 January, with 535 graveleurs tackling a 48 mile mixed terrain Low Gap course including about 6400 feet of climbing.
Part of the Grasshopper Adventure Series, now in its 27th year, the Low Gap race attracted a large field of elite and amateur gravel racers eager to showcase the fruits of their winter training.
2021 UCI MTB Cross Country Short Course World Champion Christopher Blevins, 25, secured the fastest time and overall win with a time of 2:28:40, followed by last year’s champion Peter Stetina (2:28:46) and former World Tour pro Sean Bennett (2:33:16).
2018 UCI MTB XC World Champion Kate Courtney soloed to victory for the women, finishing in 2:52:03. Flavia Oliviera Parks (2:59:30) and Katerina Nash (2:59:32) earned second and third place respectively.
16 year-old Casey Warren won the Junior Men’s race in 2:59:31 in a close sprint over Jack O’Neal. Alex Tripcevich soloed across the finish line in 3:23:43 to convincingly claim the Junior Women’s race.
