Cycling Canada announced amateur cyclist Alexander Amiri, 27, is banned from its activities and events for the rest of his life after an Abuse-Free Sport tribunal found the road cyclist violated the organization’s Code of Conduct.
In a press release Cycling Canada stated, “The breaches include, but are not limited to, sexual misconduct and grooming of a minor,” based on the Cycling Canada Code of Conduct and Ethics. Key tenants of the code include: 1) Treat all Individuals with Dignity, 2) Act with Integrity, 3) Follow the Rules, 4) Do not use Banned Substances and 5) Refrain from any form of Sexual Abuse, Harassment, Discrimination or Grooming.
Amiri finished 20th at RBC Granfondo Whistler in 2017 and was British Colombia’s Elite Sportsperson of the Year in 2018. He also participating in numerous elite events through 2021, before leaving the sport.
Amiri is now banned for life from participating in the sport of cycling in any capacity – as a coach, athlete, volunteer or spectator.
