Virtual training platform MyWhoosh, official host of the UCI Esports Cycling World Championships 2024-2026, has added six new controllable cyborg training/racing robots, each with distinct special abilities.
MyWhoosh created the bots to help users race and train more effectively, while adding some creative fun to the online platform. According to MyWhoosh, they are designed to mimic real-world team dynamics, letting users build their own cyborg team for virtual events, offering a whole new range tactical possibilities and excitement.
Users can select up to four bots for each event, with the ability to adjust their watts output and even their refuelling strategy, then utilize them as personal domestiques for pacing, sprinting, climbing, lead outs or just to create mayhem and havoc in the peloton.
Like riders on WorldTour teams, each bot offers unique strengths:
- Sprinter: for high-intensity, short-distance bursts – particularly for final sprints or quick breakaways.
- Mountain: for steep climbs, offering sustained power and endurance.
- Flat: for maintaining top speeds on flat terrains, particularly for long stretches without significant elevation changes.
- Attacker: the Attacker bot specializes in making decisive, strategic moves that can change the course of the race.
- Smasher: the Smasher bot, harnesses raw power to try and dominate the peloton and create significant gaps in a virtual race situation.
- Climber: The Climber bot aims to offer up ‘grace and efficiency’ to challenging ascents, helping riders conquer hills.
