With just two months until the first edition of UCI Millars Gran Fondo in Spain takes place on 10 March, the UCI Gran Fondo World Championship qualifying race is almost sold-out, with less than a few hundred starting bibs remaining.

Since registration opened in December over 1000 amateur riders have signed up, each hoping to qualify for the amateur road world championship by placing in the top 25% of their age/gender category.

It will be no easy task on a demanding 178 kilometer gran fondo route with 2937 meters of elevation gain throughout the beautiful Sierra de Espadan mountains

As one of Europe’s first world championship qualifying gran fondos, the remaining bibs are expected to be snapped up in the next few weeks with riders from Italy, Portugal and France planning to make the journey to sunny Vila-Real on the Mediterranean coast to secure a starting position for the 2024 world championships taking place next September in Denmark.
