Even a world class track cyclist is not fast enough to outrun or hide from the police… especially a police dog named K9 Landi.

According to WPBF News, former Pan American Games cyclist Varun Maharajh, 31, was arrested in Port St. Lucie, Florida USA on Sunday 19 November after leading police on a wild high-speed chase.

Maharajh, who competed in the 2015 Pan American Games for the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago and holds three national track cycling records, was on the run from state and federal police for a very long list of charges, including alleged carjacking and smuggling.

According to police, Maharajh drove his car almost 60 kilometers along the I-95 highway with numerous ground and air officers in pursuit before crashing and fleeing the scene.

Police continued the chase on foot (and paw) with Officer K9 Landi (a German Sheppard) running hard after the suspect.

The chase lasted 30 minutes before K9 Landi cornered Maharajh hiding in thick brush beneath a tree, with other officers then arresting him. K9 Landi then also sniffed out a 9mm handgun allegedly dropped by the Maharajh.

Police officer body-cam footage below:

Maharajh is now in the St. Lucie County Jail and has been charge with smuggling, fleeing police, fleeing police at high speed, no valid driver’s license, unlawful possession of a firearm by an alien. Additional charges are pending for armed carjacking and pointing a firearm at a police officer.

K9 Landi, on the other hand, is enjoying extra treats, more ball time and plenty of “at-a-boys” from the grateful Port St. Lucie community.
