South Africa’s oldest mass participation road race, Ride Joburg, took place for the 27th time on Sunday 19 November, with Carla Oberholzer (Sandton City CycleNation) winning the 97 kilometer race for a fourth time and Marc Pritzen (Team Honeycomb) claiming his first victory in the men’s category.
36 year-old Oberholzer, who won the race from 2018-2020, crossed the finish line solo at Johannesburg’s Moses Mabhida Stadium in a time of 2:41:43, just ahead of Maude Elaine Le Roux (2:42:25) and Joanna Van De Winkel (2:42:25).
In the men’s race, all-rounder Marc Pritzen, 24, defeated Luke Moir in a two-up sprint to win in a blazing fast time of 2:09:00. Last year’s champion Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg (2:09:21) took the field sprint for third place.
This year over 13,500 cyclists registered for Ride Joburg.
