The second edition of Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo took place Saturday 18 November in the United Arab Emirates, with over 1000 amateur riders battling for the cycling world’s biggest one-day prize payout – 500,000 Euros (AED 2 million).

After 154 flat kilometers of racing over 100 riders entered the final kilometer to sprint for what would likely be their largest ever victory prize. The fastest was Algerian Yacine Hamza (DUBAI POLICE) who edged out Cornelis Vermeltfoort of the Netherlands and Azzam Al Abdulmunum of Saudi Arabia to take home $45,000 Euros. All three riders crossed the finish line with a time of 3:22:01.

In the women’s race it was Lithuanian Akvile Gedraityte (DUBAI POLICE) who edged out Olivija Baleisyte and Ebtissam Zayed tp also take home 45,000 Euros with a winning time of 3:22:02.

With cash prize payouts 20 deep overall and 10 deep for each age category, plus team prizes, it took quite some time to write and hand out prize checks totaling 500,000 Euros.
