Sunday 5 November saw just over 800 riders participate in the fifth UCI Gran Fondo World Championship qualifying event at Gran Fondo Brasil in South America.

Taking place in the southern province of Santa Catarina, Brasil, riders looking to qualify for the 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships tackled 120 and 80 kilometers long routes depending on age.

The fastest on the 120km route was 45+ year-old Hugo Alves Prado Neto (OCE SPZ BR), who finished the flat route in 2:55:34 with an average speed of just under 45kph. Fellow 45+ competitors Roberto Leite Rodrigues Junior was next, followed by Marconi Soares Ribeiro.

Karine De Macedo (SANTOS CYCLING) was the fastest women, stopping the clock at 3:31:54. Bruna Strube Lima and Hannah Costa Oliviera were next, finishing within a minute of Macedo.

In the 80km medio fondo Priscila Benecio (PRO SPORTS) and Alessander Sanches (CYCLINGN NARDS BIKE SHOP) took top honors for the women and men respectively.

Riders finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category automatically qualify to attend the 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Aalborg, Denmark in September.

The next UCI Gran Fondo world championship qualifying event takes place back in Europe at Gran Fondo Antalya in Türkiye on 19 November.
