Giro d’Italia organizer RCS Media Group announced their Ride-Like-A-Pro amateur gran fondo series will return to the United States in 2024, with sunny and warm St. Augustine, Florida hosting an event on Sunday 14 January.
In 2012 RCS hosted the first USA Giro d’Italia fondo in Miami with over 1000 riders participating. The event was so popular more Giro events arrived the following year, including Beverly Hills, Monterey and Pasadena, California.
This time though the Giro d’Italia series, with the help of 2022 USA National Gran Fondo National Champion and 2021 USA National Masters Champion Owen Shott, plans to return to South Florida with three routes designed for cyclists of all abilities. An 86 mile gran fondo, 61 mile medio fondo and 33 mile picolo route will take riders alongside the beautiful St. Johns River and past aromatic citrus groves . Multiple competitive timed segments (a.k.a. an American fondo) will be used to score riders. Awards will presented to the Top 3 men and women in each 5 year age bracket.
Registration including an event jersey is currently just under $200 for the gran and medio fondos. NOTE: the event has a poor refund/cancellation policy that offers NO REFUNDS. Though, registration insurance can be purchased for an additional $15 fee, but that only reimburses participants if they are unable to attend – and can prove it. It does not reimburse if the organizer cancels for weather, financial, low registration, or any other reason.
