24 year-old Australian National Gravel Champion Connor Sens (St George Continental Cycling Team) won the second event of the 2024 UCI Gravel World Championship Series on Saturday in Beechworth, Australia.
After finishing in 100th place at the 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships earlier this month, Sens has now qualified to return to the world championships next year. He finished the 120km race in 3:30:44, 52 seconds up on Torben Partridge-Madsen and over a minute ahead of Daniel Braunsteins.
35 year-old Courtney Sherwell (Knights of Suburbia) won the women’s race in 3:53:05, with Matlida Raynolds crossing the finish line 51 seconds later to claim second place. Casia Boglio was next at 4:02:23
In the shorter 80km world championship qualifying race for older categories, Roger Cull (70-74) showed that age is not a barrier to winning. He earned overall victory in 2:54:17, with a two minute gap over Stephyan Jusypiw (60-64) and three minutes ahead of Brett Lindstrom (65-69).
500 riders participated in Gravelista, with those finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category automatically qualifying for the 2024 world championships taking place 05 October 2024 in Belgium.
