The UCI in conjunction with event organizers have announced 29 races are participating in the 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championship Series, with 5 new events joining for the first time. The world-wide amateur series allows cyclists to qualify for the annual UCI Gran Fondo World Championships by finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category at an event. In 2024 Aalborg, Denmark will be hosting the world championships 29 August – 1 September.
The series will see almost all of last year’s races return, with 5 new world championship qualifying events also coming on board, including: Brazil’s Gran Fondo Pomerode 5 November 2023, Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way Gran Fondo 7 April 2024, 3 RIDES Festival in Germany 12 May 2024 and Gran Fondo Svenborg in Denmark 12 June 2024. Gran Fondo Israel 2 December 2023 also joined the series, but has since cancelled due to the Israel-Hamas war.
