66 year-old American David Harper of Henry County, Georgia has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, aggressive driving, reckless conduct and making terrorist threats after he allegedly lied in wait, tracked down and intentionally ran into cyclists on a weekly group training ride.

Nine members on the Southern Crescent Cycling team were out for their normal Tuesday evening ride when they rode past Harper’s house. At that point Harper allegedly got into his pickup truck with his grandson to hunt down the cyclists, threaten to kill them and then hit a female rider with his vehicle, crashing her into the ground.

Police and emergency medics were called to scene, where Harper was arrested and the injured cyclist transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Woody Morgan, who was on the ride, told Atlanta’s Fox 5 News, “He looked straight at her and yelled at us and two times told us he’d get back in his truck and come run over us and kill us at some point.”

Like many weeknight group rides in the USA, members Southern Crescent Cycling ride the identical route at the same time every Tuesday, making it easy for someone to target, track down and potentially harass or injure the riders.
