The second sold-out edition of L’Etape Puebla by Tour de France took place in Puebla, Mexico just 2 hours south of Mexico City. 1500 riders participated with 30 year-old former continental pro Esteban Xopa and 40 year-old triathlete Alina Hanschke Busch awarded Tour de France Maillot Jaune champion’s jerseys.

In the men’s race Esteban Xopa (DICAFRIEM-SANBA CYCLING) covered the 110 kilometers long route in 3:06:42, followed by Omar Moreno (3:06:43) and Davison Castillo (3:06:56), a teammate of Xopa.

Alina Hanschke Busch stopped the clock in 3:26:18, with Elvira Almonte Colex (3:31:15) and Pamela Aguilar Lemus (3:31:58) taking second and third place in the women’s race.

In the 70 kilometer medio fondo race it was Victor Alvarez Romero, 40, taking the top honors with a time of 2:01:59. For the women, Montserrat Pérez Vera, 30, earned victory in 2:12:54.

Riders from around the world participated the the amateur race organized by Tour de France, including Germans, Colombians, Spaniards, French, Italians, Norwegians, Turks and Venezuelans, as well as many Mexicans.

The event sponsored by the State of Puebla was a huge success, generating 26 million pesos of tourism revenue and lifting the city’s hotel occupancy rate for the weekend to 100%.
