The 2nd edition of Raiders Gravel concluded in Great Britain on Sunday with World and Olympic Champion Alistair Brownlee MBE dominating the multi-day gravel race from beginning to end.

Brownlee, 35, finished in 4:39:30, over six minutes ahead of Mikey Mottram (4:46:12) and sixteen minutes up on Metheven Bond (4:55:37). The world class triathlete, who has only raced in one major triathlon this season, used the event for training after undergoing surgery to fix a nagging ankle problem. He also plans to race in the British Gravel Championships at the Kings’s Cup in two weeks.

Of his overall victory Brownlee said, “I’ve really enjoyed it, it’s an amazing beautiful place and a good format having three days of racing. You get some good racing and some good training in.”

Although Brownlee used the 3-day race for training, this was not his first gravel race – he won the 2021 British Gravel Championships.

Amelia Mitchell conclusively won the opening stage of the women’s race and never gave up the leader’s jersey. Mitchell’s overall time was 5:30:10, with Madeleine Nutt (5:41:30) earning second place. British National Gravel Champion Danni Shrosbee (5:55:31) lost over 25 minutes on the first stage due to bad luck, but still managed to finish on the podium in third place.

Over 235 riders took part in Raider’s Gravel in the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere. The event organizer, RED:ON, also hosted The Gralloch, a UCI Gravel World Championship qualifying race, in May.
