Paris-Brest-Paris, the most famous unofficial cycling race in the world, saw American Nick DeHaan from Michigan cross the finish line first after covering 1219 kilometers in 41 hours 46 minutes to set a new record.

Dehaan not only set a new modern-era record (events since 1931), he smashed it by over 40 minutes, easily beating German Bjorn Lenhard’s 2015 record of 42:26.

The ultra-cycling specialist took the race lead solo at the mid-point and never looked back. 2015 Race Across America (RAAM) champion Severin Zoster of Austria and 8x RAAM finisher Marko Baloh Slovinia finished next, both with a time of 42:36

While Dehaan is the first to finish, the 2023 edition of Paris-Brest-Paris is still far from over. The vast majority of the 6000+ participants are still criss-crossing the roads of western France as fast as they can, trying and reach the finish on Thursday within the 90 hour limit.
