While 2500 amateur riders attended the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships last weekend in Scotland, even more tackled the legendary and epic Tour des Stations event high in the Alps. With over 4700 meters of climbing across 133 kilometers, the gran fondo is one of the most challenging in all of Europe.
Former professional Swiss cyclist Marcel Wyss, 37, conquered the demanding route with a winning time of 4:56:46, just four minutes short of setting a new course record. Italian Marco Provera was next at 5:00:34, followed by Dimitri Bussard at 5:01:09, also from Switzerland.
32 year-old Italian Samantha Arnaudo, the GFNY World Champion in 2022, won the women’s category in 5:38:39, well ahead of Poland’s Karolina Mignon at 5:47:02 and Tess Lawson of Great Britain at 6:21:11.
Rahel Aschwanden won the 74 kilometer (+2900m) medio fondo for the women in 3:35:10, while Aurelien Gay did the same in the men’s category with a time of 2:56:50.
