The second edition of L’Etape San Antonio took place Sunday 16 April in the beautiful Texas hill country outside the city of San Antonio. With a red Ferrari leading the peloton, over 1700 riders departed at the crack of dawn on 100, 60 and 25-mile routes as world famous Didi the Devil, aka Dieter Senft of Germany, cheered and prodded them along wearing his customary red devil costume complete with trident.

Claiming the winner’s yellow jersey in the 100-mile gran fondo race was Mathieu Moreau in 4:26:40, defeating Ron Tuazon and former pro rider now social media influencer Phil Gaimon, both with a time of 4:26:43. Jennifer Real won the women’s race in 4:38:54 to also take home a yellow champion’s jersey.

Gilberto Garza won the 60-mile medio fondo in 2:28:09, pipping Mathew Gordon on the finish line. Luis Chacon finished third one second later. Dina Cristal was the first woman in 2:47:45, whereas former pro Jens “Shut Up Legs” Voigt rolled in with a time of 3:35:04 in 152nd place.

Matthew Weeks was first in the 25-mile piccolo fondo with a time of 59:04 and the only rider to break the one-hour barrier, though, Stephany Castruita was right behind at 1:01:56 as the first woman.

Riders who missed out on the event can participate in the next L’Etape by Tour de France event on 7 May in Las Vegas, Nevada USA or sign up for the 2024 edition of L’Etape San Antonio, already scheduled for 14 April.
