Israeli-Canadian billionaire businessman Sylvan Adams is not only the owner of the Israel-Premier Tech pro team of 4x Tour de France champion Chris Froome, he is also a competitive amateur racer.

Last weekend the 65 year-old won the overall medio fondo, as well as his age category, at the UCI Gran Fondo World Series Cyprus race, qualifying him to compete in the Gran Fondo World Championships in August.

The three stage event on the island of Cyprus consisted of a time trial and two road races, with Adams (Israel-Premier Tech) emulating Chris Froome, dominating the competition from beginning to end. He started by finishing third in the opening 28.3km time trial with a time of 44:52, and went on to win the following two road races with a total medio fondo general classification time of 4:12:03. Basile François (4:13:22) finished second, followed by Jaroslaw Tarasiński (4:16:12)

Having won the UCI Masters World Championships in his age category on more than one occasion, Adam’s hopes to bring his current top form to the biggest amateur racing stage, the 2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

I did pretty well” he said. “My plan is to compete in Glasgow, and we’ll see how it goes.”

More than 500 riders competed in the three-day event, with the main gran fondo length competition won by ex-pro Adair Zakarin for the men and Meredith Byrne for the women.
