Winner of the Tour, Giro and Vuelta, and now recently retired, Vincenzo Nibali will take to the start line of one of the most symbolic amateur races in the world, the Mallorca 312 on 29 April. After pinning on the prestigious number 312 bib, he will ride 312 kilometers alongside 8000 riders lucky to land a starting slot at the annual always sold-out event.
“There are very few cyclists who have been able to win the Giro d’Italia, the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España throughout their career. Vincenzo Nibali is one of them and it will be a pleasure to be able to honor him and give the participants of the Mallorca 312 the opportunity to ride with him on the roads of Mallorca,” organizer Xisco Lliteras announced.
The former Italian professional cyclist, winner of the 2014 Tour de France, 2013 Giro d’Italia and 2010 Vuelta a España, will join other former top professionals including: Alberto Contador, Sean Kelly, Pedro Horrillo, Oscar Pereiro, Joseba Beloki, Oscar Freire, Ivan Basso and Andre Greipel.
He will ride the epic and classic “more than a gran fondo” 312 kilometer route, including 5000 meters of climbing, that criss-crosses the island of Mallorca, while shorter 225 and 167 kilometer routes will also be available for those wanting something closer to a traditional gran fondo.
In 2022, shoe salesman and amateur cyclist Olivier Godfroid won the Mallorca 312 race, which was instrumental in helping him land a pro contract on the 2023 Belgian Baloise Trek Lions team.
