Virtual doper Eddy Hoole is back in the news, and it is not an April Fool’s Day hoax…
The amateur cyclist previously banned from Zwift and disqualified from the UCI eSports World Championships has now been disqualified from the MyWhoosh virtual Sunday Race Club series.
Late last year Hoole, a software engineer, produced a ludicrous 8.8 w/kg to win a world championship qualifying race on Zwift and was subsequently found guilty of intentionally cheating and manipulating power data.
Although banned from racing in South Africa and on Zwift, in March he prequalified, signed up and raced at the $300,000 prize payout Sunday Race Club Series (SRC) on the MyWhoosh virtual training platform.
Unfortunately for Hoole, other competitors spotted the notorious virtual doper and took to MyWhoosh Facebook page to complain…and take Hoole down. One user posted: “I saw Eddy Hoole on SRC races today. Do you really want to let this guy race? I’m sure many drivers will be very skeptical about his performance given his past.”
MyWhoosh wasted no time and immediately announced Hoole’s disqualification from the SRC series since he violated a clause in the ruleset:
“Following an internal investigation, the MyWhoosh Cycling Esports Race Commission has canceled the participation of Eddy Hoole of the Sunday Race Club on March 12th… Eddy Hoole has breached Clause 1.4.5.3 of the MyWhoosh Rules required for participation in a MyWhoosh Esports Races have been scheduled while he is serving a suspension from cycling South Africa.”
With Hoole’s competitive ban expiring 12 May 2023, he only has to sit on the sidelines a few more weeks before returning to competitive racing on MyWhoosh or Zwift.
