Sad news out of Canada where the surprising death of top British Colombia cyclist Kris Yip has been announced. The 47 year-old passed away suddenly on 18 January 2023, with details surrounding the cause of his death not public at press time.

Less than 24 hours before his death, Yip was doing what he loved, riding his bike in a Zwift Racing League Team Time Trial on the virtual cycling platform.

Yip started cycling when he was 15 years-old and never stopped pedaling. He was a Canadian National Junior Road and Criterium Champion, member of the national team and more recently finished third at the prestigious Granfondo Whistler, ninth at Okanagan Gran Fondo and represented Canada at the 2022 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships.

Upon the announcement heartfelt condolences poured in from competitors, world famous cycling announcer Dave Towle, Zwift and many others on social media.

On Sunday 29 January Zwift will host a Memorial Ride for Kris Yip, with over 400 cyclists signed up to participate and honor their friend and world class competitor.
