UPDATE 10 FEBRUARY 2023: The organizer of Gran Fondo Matildica has notified us that the 2023 edition will no longer host the European Cycling Union (UEC) gran fondo championships as originally published in this article. The event is now exclusive to the UCI Gran Fondo World Series.

The 51st edition of Italy’s famous Gran Fondo Matildica on 4 June 2023 will now be part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series, allowing amateur riders the opportunity to qualify for the Gran Fondo World Championships

Two different routes are planned: a 125 kilometers long Medio Fondo with 1760 meters of vertical gain and the main 159km Gran Fondo with over 2650 meters of climbing, both starting and finishing in Reggio Emilia.

All riders who finish in the top 20% of their age/gender category will qualify for the 2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships taking place in Glasgow, Scotland GBR in August.
