A star studded field lined up at the UCI Gran Fondo Isle of Man on Sunday, including a half-dozen professional riders and hundreds of amateurs eager to earn a starting bib at the 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.

26 year-old UCI WorldTeam professional rider Christopher Lawless (TotalEnergies) and last year’s champion, Tyler Hannay, 18, broke away from an elite front group on the 137 kilometer course to vie for victory, with Lawless besting Hannay at the line to win in 3:41:28.
Fellow U23 riders Thomas Dhooge and Jef Van Meirhaeghe, both from Belgium, finished second and third in 3:45:13. While WorldTeam pro riders Ben Swift (Ineos Grenadiers) and Mark Cavendish MBE (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team) rolled in together at 4:00:04 in eight and ninth place.

Caressa van Den Bogert won the women’s race in 4:33:42, followed by Emily Looker and Jo Bridson.
Amateur participants finishing in the top 20% of their age/gender category qualify to attend the September 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Trento, Italy.
