South African triathlete Madelaine Le Roux (Team Sandton City), who also races bikes for esports Team Wahoo le Col, can now add another title to her palmares – Bad Ass Weekend Bike Racer – after winning two events this past weekend in South Africa.
On Saturday in Pretoria she only needed 3:40:06 to win WorldTour pro Willie Smitt’s Smurfy 500 medio fondo race of 135 kilometres with 1100 metres climbing in very hot and windy conditions, then on Sunday she lined up at the 111 kilometre Tschwane Classic, where she dominated the Women’s race to win in 3:01:01, over five minutes up on second place Jo Van De Winkle and third place Emma Pallant.
Pro MTB racer Jacques Janse Van Rensburg won Saturday’s epic Smurfy 500 kilometre Men’s race, beating Gert Fouche and Jaco Ferreira. In 2020 Fouche and Ferreira also finished on the podium, just not the top step, Ferreira was second and Fouche third.
Also on Sunday Missimo Guglielmi won the Men’s Tschwane Classic in a three-up sprint to the line. Derek Venter was second and David Labuschagne third.
