After being coronavirus cancelled twice this year, the organiser of the UCI Gran Fondo Moscow world championship qualifying race announced the event will roll-out this weekend on a new pandemic safe course in the South-West region of Moscow.
“Since Moscow still has no opportunity to hold the planned starts of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series qualifying competitions, the events are [now] scheduled for August 15 in the vicinity of the city Vereya,” UCI Gran Fondo Moscow posted on social media.
On Sunday 15 August riders will race on a 118 kilometre shark-tooth loop with 972 metres of climbing and virtually no flat sections. Riders finishing in the top 25% of their age group qualify to compete in the 2021 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships planned for 10 October in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The event is scheduled on the same weekend as the UCI Gran Fondo World Championship test race in Sarajevo, where riders can preview the course and even qualify to compete in the world championships.
Currently, six additional UCI Gran Fondo World Series races are tentatively scheduled to taken place before the world championships.
