Movistar Team Ecuador executed a perfect plan last Saturday, launching Segundo Navarrete to victory at Gran Fondo Santa Elena taking place in Ecuador.

Over 200 cyclists started the 100 kilometre race at 07:00 with attacks and counter-attacks commencing immediately. The efforts significantly reduced the size of the peloton, but it was not until the back half of the course that Navarrete used his strength to escape while teammates controlled any chasers.

Navarrete quickly built a lead of 1 minute and by the finish he was 1 minute 20 seconds up on a large group racing for second place. Navarrete’s winning first place time was 2 hours, 7 minutes and 21 seconds with a blistering average speed of 46.5kph. “We were the team to beat” that’s why the rivals were watching us,” he said afterwards.

Patricia Torres Ulloa (GHOST RIDERS GYE) soloed to victory in the Women’s race, finishing in 2 hours 14 minutes and 11 seconds, almost 8 minutes ahead of the next women.

Navarrete and his Movistar Team Ecuador will participate in the 71st edition of the Vuelta a Colombia starting 16 April.
