310 amateur cyclists didn’t stand a chance of winning the GFNY Ecuador gran fondo.
Fresh off three stage victories at the 2020 Vuelta a Guatemala professional race, 35 year-old Byron Guamá (BEST PC ECUADOR) won GFNY Ecuador in Manta, Ecuador on Saturday 5 December.

As one of Ecuador’s top pro cyclists his victory was never in doubt. His palmarès include two Ecuadorian National Road Championships, two Pan American Road Championships and three Vuelta al Ecuador titles.
Guamá rode to victory on the 175 kilometre gran fondo route with 2100 metres of climbing in 4:39:16 at an average speed of 37.6 km/hr. The win earned him a ticket to compete in the 2021 GFNY World Championship race in New York City on 16 May.
Completing the Men’s podium were two other pro cyclists, Martin Lopez, also racing for BEST PC ECUADOR, who crossed under the finish banner at 4:39:40 and TEAM MOVISTAR ECUADOR rider Jorge Montenegro at 4:41:09.
Daniela Andrade won the Women’s race in 5:35:21 with a 10+ minute lead on second place Gabriela Delgado (5:45:55) and Cecilia Vallejo (5:46:44).
GFNY Ecuador is the sixth race in the worldwide GFNY series to be held during the pandemic. For 2021, seventeen races are scheduled with the first in Monterrey, Mexico on 7 March.
