New Zealand’s ability to crush COVID19 is reaping huge benefits for gran fondo cyclists, with the 5 Passes Tour taking place as scheduled 20-23 November on the South Island.
The four-day event started in Christchurch with 100 amateur and profession athletes riding 618km with 5863m vertical gain on the stunning South Island.
Top athletes included multi-sport superstar Braden Currie, former Olympic and Giro d’Italia rider Tim Gudsell as well as female multisport athletes Julia Spark, Karen Russo and Nicole Sproule.
After four days of racing Braden Currie claimed the Men’s Overall General Classification with a time of 8:57:02. Dougal Allen (8:58:25) and Tim Gudsell (9:03:47) finished second and third respectively.
In the Women’s Overall General Classification Karen Russo (10:26:36) bested Julia Spark (10:47:29) and Vicki Martin (11:03:08) to earn victory.
