The 2021 UCI Gran Fondo World Series kicked off on 6 September in Slovenia at Maraton Franja BTC City gran fondo with 770 riders trying to qualify for the 2021 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships taking place next September in Bosnia Herzegovina .

Italian Andrea Chiminello won the Men’s 156km gran fondo race in 3:26:03 after barely out sprinting local rider Matej Lovse, Alexander Steffens from Germany and Solvenian Gregor Tekavec.

On an all Slovenian podium, Laura Simenc stood on the top step after finishing in 3:35:53.  Katarina Novak was second and Dunja Salon third.

Sara Markovic won the 97km Women’s medio fond race in 2:30:04 while Matic Plaznik win the Men’s Medio Fondo in 2:2:58.

Riders finishing in the top 20% of their age category qualify for the 2021 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.  Final list of qualifying riders will be published on the UCI Gran Fondo World Series website.
