Italian Tommaso Elettrico continued his winning ways at the highest gran fondo cyclosportive in Europe – Mercan’Tour Bonette DT SWISS in Valberg, France.
The ASD Team CSP Cycling rider made his move on a 26km hors categorie climb to the 2802m summit of Col de La Bonette. He rode away from Team Cycliste Azureen rider Nicolas Thomas and Fabio Cini of the ASD Capitani Minuterie team to finish with a total time of 4:54:47.
The legendary climb is not very steep at 6.4%, but the length of the climb “slowly kills” as L’Équipe sports columnist wrote when the Tour de France first climb it in 1962.
Annalisa Prato (Team Colpack Master) won the women’s gran fondo race in 5:32, finishing 21st overall.
In addition to the 166km gran fondo, the event offered a shorter 87km medio fondo which Davide Covolo won in 2:45:07.
