The last remaining UCI Gran Fondo World Series race of the decimated 2020 season has been cancelled.
UCI Samcheok Gran Fondo in South Korea was originally scheduled for April, but moved to July due to COVID-19.
With domestic COVID-19 infections re-surging in South Korea, as well as cancellation of the 2020 Gran Fondo World Championships, the organizer, XCWORKS, announced their decision via email.
“Though we have kept paying attention to the situation of the domestic COVID-19 infection, we finally decided to postpone the event as sudden mass infections keep happening around the country. We didn’t want our participants to face the danger of mass infection, so please under-stand our decision,” XCWORKS.
The race will return in 2021 on 1 May, once again, as a UCI Gran Fondo World Championship qualifying race.
In total, 24 of 30 races that make up the 2020 UCI Gran Fondo World Series have been cancelled due to COVID-19, including the Gran Fondo World Championships
