In a continuing stream of UCI Gran Fondo World Series race cancellations, Japan’s UCI Niseko Classic announced today it is withdrawing from the 2020 series due to coronavirus.

The cancellation was announced via Twitter (translated).

“We regret to inform you that, with public safety in mind during this COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic, the “ANA Niseko Classic 2020” scheduled for June 12-14 has been cancelled.

Whilst monitoring the status of the Coronavirus and under discussion with the related Cycling Federations, we are looking into options to schedule the same event later in this year.”

12 UCI Gran Fondo World Series races that allow amateurs to qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships have been cancelled due to coronavirus.  The 3 upcoming UCI GFWS races scheduled in May (Cheaha USA, Moscow RUS and Banjaluka BIH) are expected to cancel too.
