2019 Gran Fondo World Champion and recent 2020 UCI Gran Fondo Casablanca winner Maxim Pirard is not ready to move his training online during the pandemic.

As Belgium stepped closer to a coronavirus lockdown and European countries banned cycling, Pirard joined Ag2r La Mondiale pro rider Oliver Naesen for a heroic 365km donut ride around Flanders on Wednesday.

The pair rode for more than 12 hours at a low intensity, chatting and stopping to refuel with delicious Belgian Berlin ball donuts three times. Averaging 182 watts at 30.4km/h they burned ~8000 calories – that’s a lot of donuts.

With pro and amateur cycling events cancelled for the foreseeable future, Nasean commented to Sporza, “Every day is like a Sunday now, you have to exercise with the theme of having fun.”

Of course, donuts make any ride fun…
