On a hot and humid 100 degree day 332 cyclists from across Costa Rica converged on the city of Puntarenas along the Pacific Ocean to race the 154km Gran Fondo Zona Sur.

With a 06:00 roll out to try and beat the heat, racers started high up in the mountain town of Ferreteria Palmares and finished on the coast in Uvita atop a small climb. The route was what every cyclist dreams about – mostly downhill, making the pace very swift with a winning average speed of 42.9km/hr!

The first rider to cross the finish line in Uvita was Jhon Jiménez who soloed in with a time of 3:36:27, followed by Kevin Granados at 3:38:04 and then Ricardo Rouillon at 3:38:04.

The women’s race saw Sharon Ramírez win with a time of 3:50:43, followed by Tatiana Romero Castillo at 4:06:44 and the final podium spot earned by Paula Herrera Hernández in 4:07:47.
