The island of Ischia is just a short boat ride off the coast of Naples in the clear blue-green Tyrrhenian Sea. One day each year it hosts cyclists on 100km car-free route around the entire island.
The Ischia100 Gran Fondo starts from the imposing Aragonese castle and this year had more than three hundred riders, including World Champion and mega-heartthrob Mario Cipollini wearing skin-tight rainbow stripes.
After 3 laps around the island, Vincenzo Pisani of the Euronics Team distanced all riders on roads with grades up to 16% to take the victory in 2:41:25. Sonia Arena won the women’s race.
